We will leave on Air France via Paris to Amsterdam, staying one night in Amsterdam to shake off the jetlag before embarking on the Beautiful AMA Siena. Post Cruise -cruise stay 2 nights in Basel Switzerland!
The AMA Siena is one of the newest ships in the AMA Waterways fleet coming into service in 2021 when there was virtually no travel happening, so she is barely sailed on. Stunning ship. With only 156 passengers this is a very exclusive experience one one of the most scenic rivers in Europe.
After spending 8 days on this beautiful vessel being pampered, we will spend 2 nights in Basel Switzerland. Basel is often overlooked, and is a wonderful post cruise destination/wind-down. We will enjoy a private-guided walking tour through the medieval old city. Basel's beautiful Christmas markets (plural there are three!) are open when we are there. If this isn't enough, we are just a 20 minute train ride to Mulhouse, France for more self exploration. Shelley can quite often be seen making her way to Mulhouse on the train to visit her favorite jeweler in the Christmas market there, and she doesn't mind company!!
This cruise is not billed as a Christmas Markets cruise, however, most of the markets are open and you can spend free time there, while still experiencing a regular full tour schedule! Often in places like Strasbourg the ship is in port for a full day.. Shelley often does her Christmas baking at this stop on the river... a big day!! Rudesheim is transformed into largest most beautiful Christmas Village you have ever seen!!
An afternoon of day-time cruising through the spectacular Rhine Gorge amongst its medieval castles and the Loralei Rock is an experience you will not forget!!
